Spann ("we", "our", or "us") operates the website at spann.live (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use Spann. By using Spann, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

1. Information we collect

Spann is designed to be lightweight and privacy-respecting. We collect the following:

Search queries — keywords, location, and filter selections you enter. Used solely to retrieve job listings from third-party sources.
Account information (optional) — if you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile image from Google. This is used to create your account, save jobs to your profile, and recognise you on return visits.
Saved jobs — if you are signed in, the job listings you save are stored and linked to your account so you can access them later.
Email address (optional) — if you subscribe to job alerts, we collect your email address to send you those alerts.
Usage data — anonymous data such as pages visited, browser type, device type, and general location (country/city level), collected automatically via standard server logs.
Cookies — a functional cookie to remember your light/dark mode preference, and, if you sign in, a session cookie to keep you logged in.

Signing in and subscribing to alerts are both optional. You can use Spann's core job search without an account.

To process your job search queries and return relevant listings from third-party job boards
To create and maintain your account if you sign in with Google
To save and display job listings you have saved to your profile
To send job alerts to your email address if you have subscribed
To improve and maintain the performance of the Service
To understand how the Service is being used in aggregate
To comply with legal obligations

3. Authentication and data storage

We use the following service providers to operate Spann:

Google Sign-In (OAuth) — used to authenticate you if you choose to sign in. We receive basic profile information (name, email, profile image) from Google. Google's privacy policy applies to data Google processes: policies.google.com/privacy.
Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Your account details and saved jobs are stored securely on Supabase infrastructure. Privacy policy at supabase.com/privacy.
Resend — our email delivery provider. If you subscribe to job alerts, your email address is processed by Resend to deliver those emails. Privacy policy at resend.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Vercel — our hosting provider. The Service runs on Vercel's infrastructure: vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

4. Third-party job sources

Spann aggregates job listings from the following third-party sources. When you search, your query is transmitted to these services to retrieve listings:

Adzuna — international job listings. Privacy policy at adzuna.com.
ScrapingDog — Google Jobs and LinkedIn job listings. Privacy policy at scrapingdog.com.
Remotive — remote job listings. Privacy policy at remotive.com.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. When you click "View listing" and navigate to an external site, their own privacy policies apply.

5. Advertising and cookies

Spann uses cookies and similar technologies. These include:

Functional cookies — to remember your light/dark mode preference and, if you sign in, to keep your session active. These contain no advertising data.
Advertising cookies — Spann displays ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to Spann and other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to Spann and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.

We may also use analytics tools to collect anonymous usage statistics to understand and improve how the Service is used.

6. Data retention

Search queries are not retained beyond the duration needed to return results. Account information and saved jobs are retained for as long as your account remains active. Email addresses collected for job alerts are retained until you unsubscribe. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time using the contact details below.

7. Children's privacy

Spann is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise these rights — including deleting your account, saved jobs, or unsubscribing from alerts — contact us at the address below. You can also clear functional cookies through your browser settings at any time.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any updated policy.

10. Governing law

This Privacy Policy is governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the UAE.
